Another Day (in Yeji)
      }   Click to zoom booklet

There’s no one here
to ply the lake
to take his place.
There’s no time for school,
to rest or (even) play.
Roughly pushed towards the lake
along the shore,
trying to keep away from beatings
sleeping on the floor...

See his pain
How does it make you feel?
no one here, no one seems to care
there’s no need for faith or prayer
but some hope to lead
him not to say
just another day

It’s just another day
Mark is 5, a lonely boy on a boat
There’s no place
for a childish smile on his face
Obey the master
Mend the fishing net
Diving deep, untangle it
He doesn’t understand...

Waiting for his only meal a day.
In the mud,
He watches the lake and the bay.
Could life ever get better than today?
Hoping the world changes anyway.
It’s just another day
just another day.

Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally.

Mark Kwadwo becomes the slave of one of the Volta Lake's fishing masters when he was only five years old in 2005.

His mother was so poor and had nothing to feed her other children. She had no choice and decides in a desperate plight to sell him to Kwadwo Takyi for less than $50.00 American dollars.

Her oldest child is gone; the others have food for some time. As we don't know such poverty, we can not condemn but only feel deep pain for her.

Mark has been slave for a year before being rescue by "Touch a Life" but many others like Dominic and Emmanuel have been slaves for more than 5 or 6 years and finally rescue by "Challenging Heights", "OIM" or "Touch a Life"

Even if the situation has progressed, a law voted by the Ghanaian government in 2005, despite the help of many organizations today there are still thousands of very young children being slaves and fishing 14 hours and often more every day...

Every day at 4:00 in the morning, thousands of children are forced to wake up not to go to school but to begin another day on the lake.

The end of the song is a guitar solo showing all my admiration to Steve Hackett and the way he's never in paying technical demonstration and always favoring harmony and musicality.
