Fayçal El Mezouar


Originally from Tlemcen in Algeria, where he studied Arab-Andalucian music in the al Kortobia school from the age of ten, Fayçal EL MEZOUAR, a player of many instruments (Ud, violin, mandolin, song) has lived in France since 2000 and still works in this repertoire while exploring other musical avenues.

He has worked as writer and director on various types of artistic projects from theatre, to dance to other types of live show.

His musical style with an Andalusian and oriental flavour is the result of the blending of different formal and folk repertoires from the Mediterranean basin.

Groups:
o He is a member of Zhar (Mediterranean music), with whom he recorded a disc in 2004 entitled "La route des mariages" in La Rochelle on Indie.
o He is a member of Flamenco Tomaketoma.
o He is part of the Ifriqiya trio, who brought out a record in 2009, on Harmonia Mundi.
o He is also a member of the Redwane orchestra under the direction of Fayçal BENKALFAT (CD nouba H'sin recorded in 1999 with the Tlemcen orchestra).

Others:
o Musical accompaniment and creation with “Les clandestins”, “Odile AZAGURY” as well as the Atlantic baller Régine CHOPINOT.

If it was difficult to find an Uilleannn pipes player, finding an Oud player was not easy either…

Once I had contacted Fayçal, he came to the studio during the night, between two shows he was playing and taped the solo on "Hope", the gimmick on "Breathe" and on "Everything we can"….

It was a magical moment where everything came together and I was able to finally hear what I had inside my head for so many months thanks to his talent…
